Bolton-born Hilary Devey CBE is an entrepreneur, TV presenter, commentator, Hilary Devey
and award-winning businesswoman who, when she launched Pall-Ex in 1996, not only created a business network that now commands revenues of £100 million, but also revolutionised the palletised distribution industry in the UK.

Hilary has become a familiar face on British television, known for her pivotal, community and entrepreneurship-supporting roles in reality shows including Dragons’ Den, The Intern, The Secret Millionaire and The Business Inspector.

Hilary has been the recipient of a number of leading industry awards, including the 2007 Ernst & Young UK Entrepreneur Award and the NatWest Everywoman award in 2008, as well as being voted the Vitalise Businesswoman of the Year twice (in 2004 and 2008).  In 2009, Hilary made history as the first ever woman to be presented with the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport’s most prestigious accolade, the Sir Robert Lawrence Award.

In 2010, Hilary Devey was made an honorary Doctor of Laws at the University of Leicester. Hilary has honorary Doctorates in Business Administration from the Universities of Bolton and Wolverhampton and was awarded a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 2013, for her contribution to the Transport Industry and to Charity.

Hilary is sought as an inspiring motivational speaker by major corporate firms and networking organisations, recently addressing conferences and events staged by Credit Suisse, T-Mobile, and The Entrepreneurs’ Forum.

Hilary also campaigns tirelessly for various charities including The Carers Trust, of which she is vice president and the Stroke Association of which she is a patron. When setting up Pall-Ex Hilary launched the Penny-A-Pallet scheme, which sees a contribution made for every Pall-Ex pallet processed and has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for a raft of charities.

A committed philanthropist, Sharon also gives back to world communities as both a volunteer and benefactor.  She serves on the national board of the Women Presidents’Organization, and the national board of Childhelp, a national organization founded to prevent and treat child abuse. Sharon is also an Instructor for Thunderbird School of Global Management for both its Artemis Program and its partnership with the U.S. Department of State and Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women program. Sharon was the driving force behind the passage of Arizona SB1449 in June of 2013, a bill that requires financial literacy concepts to permanently be incorporated into economics standards and created a separate statue for those concepts.

Sharon’s contributions have been recognized globally. Childhelp has honored Sharon and her husband, Michael, as recipients of the Spirit of the Children Award. Sharon and Michael were recognized as an Arizona “Power Couple,” and Sharon was also named as a Woman of Distinction by the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America.  She was honored with a 2012 Positively Powerful Women award for Philanthropic Leadership, by the Phoenix Business Journal as one of 2013’s 25 Dynamic Women in Business, and by National Bank of Arizona with the 2013 Woman of the Year award and Arizona Business Magazine as one of the 50 most Influential Women in Arizona Business. In 2015 Sharon was honoured by Florida State University’s Women for FSU with a Gift of Wisdom Award, Women Presidents’ Organization with the Mary Lehman MacLachlan Economic Empowerment award and by the National Financial Educators Council as the Financial Educator of the Year for 2015.  Sharon was also honored with the prestigious 2015 International Profilo Donna Award by Profile Woman.

What protection does their small business insurance offer?

Apart from the usual threats that your business may face – (for example, if you are a tradesperson, cover for your tools against theft or damage) – you might be surprised by the number and variety of ‘hidden’ risks and perils facing your business too. Public Liability insurance
As the owner of the business you have what is called a duty of care towards your customers, visitors to your premises and members of the general public. Such claims made by employees may once again be very substantial.

If your business relies on giving professional advice – verbally or by way of designs or specifications, for example – to your customers, you have a duty to ensure that the advice is free of errors, mistakes or other issues which lead to your customer suffering physical injury or financial loss.
However carefully you exercise this duty, slips and errors may still occur and an aggrieved customer is entitled to sue you, claiming professional negligence. Claims may be substantial.

Certain professionals – such as lawyers, accountants, architects and builders – may be required to hold an adequate level of professional indemnity in order to practice. Even if there is no professional body insisting that you have this type of insurance, however, you may find that prospective customers require the comfort it gives before concluding any contract with you.

We are inviting you to join us for one of Cardiff’s largest celebrations for Beaujolais Day! Held on Thursday, 17th November from 12pm, we will be back at the Madeira Restaurant, Cardiff. This will be our eighth celebration, so it’s going to be a great event!

About Beaujolais Day

Beaujolais Nouveau has always been celebrated, but only locally. The wine is a celebration of the first of the season. The wine is a fresh and fruity fermentation process that ends with a tasty, clean wine. Obviously, due to the speed of production, the wine isn’t the best quality but is celebrated all the same.

In the 1970’s, a fantastic marketing strategy was introduced where it became a race to see who could get the first bottles to Paris – this attracted massive media attention and so the popularity of Beaujolais Day grew to the 4 corners of the world. Today, it’s a race to get the first bottles to different markets around the globe.

By the time Beaujolais Day is drawing to a close, it is thought that over 65 million bottles of wine, nearly half of the region’s total annual production, will be distributed and drunk around the globe. That’s a lot of red wine!

Last year’s Beaujolais Day event was packed to the rafters and besides the obvious networking opportunities, it’s a terrific social event to be a part of! You wll enjoy a champagne reception, an authentic 2 course meal with half a bottle of Beaujolais wine, well it is a celebration after all! The party will then continue over at the Chapel 1877 Bar, Cardiff from 5pm.

Breakfast will be provided by Spiros Caterers, so you can enjoy a delicious breakfast roll or a flaky pastry with your tea or coffee. This will be followed by a FREE speed networking session from 10:15am. 

Last year, we had a great turnout! We welcome over 300 guests for breakfast and we’re hoping to attract 500+ this time around!
