Records broken at our Cardiff Business Expo…

RECORDS BROKEN AT THE INTROBIZ EXPO 2018

The Introbiz Expo of 2018 was an immensely successful event, with record crowds attending. We were ambitious enough to carry out four sold-out events in one day. And it worked. We worked so hard to ensure success and learned a lot as a team. At Introbiz it is our upmost aim to connect business so that they can thrive, so it was a pleasure to see so many connections and even deals made on the day! We are determined to up the ante next year – so stay tuned… watch this space. If you were not able to make the Expo this year, here’s what you missed.

With the sun peeping through the winter clouds on the morning of the Introbiz Expo, all was still at 7am outside the Motorpoint Arena. Inside, however, it was a different story. Through the front doors, there were huge crowds queueing down the street to get inside. Entrepreneurs were in search of coffee and getting ready for the day ahead, beginning with Wales’ biggest Networking Breakfast event. Last minute touches were put to the record number of stands being exhibited, with the smell of full English breakfasts and fresh croissants wafting through the arena. The Introbiz Expo 2018 had begun.

Wales largest Networking Breakfast event, sponsored by PIXAFUSION Digital

The day kicked off with WRU CEO Martyn Phillips and BBC’s Scrum V presenter Sean Holley hosting a live Q&A. This took place with over 300 guests enjoying a breakfast fit for royalty, provided by the award-winning Spiros Caterers.

But first, there was an important surprise. The Royal Welsh Third Battalion slowly marched into the breakfast room, dazzling the crowd with their percussion and musical talent. With their drums and uniforms catching everyone’s eye, they provided the perfect beginning to the day. They acted as a clue to the theme of the VIP Charity Gala Dinner later in the evening, accompanying ABF The Soldiers’ Charity on their stand throughout the day.

Lord Sugar Lunch, sponsored by Hunter Jones Investments

One of our main and highly anticipated keynote speakers took to the stage at midday. The business mandate and nation’s favourite hirer and firer, Lord Alan Sugar arrived in Cardiff to give the Welsh business community an insight into his business expertise.

With Spiros Caterers kindly providing us with lunch too, the guests sat down to await Lord Sugar. Over 300 high-profile business celebs and entrepreneurs joined us in the curtained off room for the VIP experience, with Lord Sugar partaking in a live Q&A with Paul and Tracey Smolinski, Introbiz’ MDs. The Lord’s wit and humour did not go amiss, with many saying they were over the moon to have seen their business idol in person.

Grant Cardone 10X, sponsored by Paul McFadden Wealth and Thrive Assets

The global entrepreneur Grant Cardone was in the UK on his 10X Tour, he visited London and Glasgow along with Cardiff. With people paying thousands to see him live in America, there was a huge hype generated in the UK’s business community. He certainly lived up to his reputation. The packed-out room was encapsulated by Grant Cardone as he delivered his 10X talk.

This American sales guru brought along his gorgeous family and hypnotised the crowd with his business philosophies. Guests were walking away from his talk feeling more than inspired and ready to 10X their business, which is what the Expo is all about!

Check out the keynote speakers gallery here.

VIP Charity Gala Dinner, sponsored by Godiva Insurance

Taking place at The Vale Resort, our VIP Charity Gala Dinner really was awe-inspiring. The room was dressed up beautifully (but not as beautifully as our guests!!), really showcasing a celebratory, Christmassy vibe – the ideal setting to relax and enjoy the aftermath and the success of the day. Sean Holley addressed the crowd as compère, hosting an auction and a raffle to raise money for the ABF Soldiers’ Charity. Prizes such as a black-tie dinner for two at Edinburgh Castle + VIP Royal Gallery for the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and Afternoon Tea at the Savoy Hotel in London were on offer and generated much interest and friendly competition. With great pride we are proud to say we raised a large sum of money for the charity.

This was the perfect end to a day filled with success, emotion and pride. Our goal was met when we received such positive feedback from exhibitors, visitors, sponsors and keynote speakers alike!

Introducing the Introbiz Expo 2018 Award Winners

Introducing the Introbiz Expo Award Winners

The Introbiz Expo 2018 was our biggest yet. Wales’ largest business Expo took another leap and is now the largest business Expo by FAR. This could not have been done without everyone who took part, exhibitors, keynote speakers, visitors, sponsors and volunteers alike. We are over the moon to hear how beneficial everyone found the day, with businesses already following up contacts made and making deals left right and centre! We felt it necessary to recognise those that particularly excelled. So, here’s a massive congratulations to all of our Introbiz Expo Award Winners!

Best Large Stand

After an incredibly difficult choice, we decided that Zenith Print and Packaging would be the winner of the Best Large Stand. With their all singing, all dancing funfair style stand, they attracted such a large amount of footfall and clearly made the most out of their Expo experience. Giving away free teddies just before Christmas was a stroke of genius, in our opinion.

Best Medium Stand

The winner of Best Medium Stand was 123 Divorce. Their stand stood out because of their insistent use of anything pink, if it wasn’t pink, it wasn’t allowed on the stand! Their theory is, in a time of grey, they will be the colour in your life, helping you through the difficult times brought on by a divorce. This branding really makes them stand out and we believe this deserved an award.

Best Small Stand

As a much-loved science discovery centre in Cardiff, it’s a task to demonstrate what Techniquest is all about at a business exhibition in the Motorpoint Arena. Yet they pulled it off with flying colours, by transporting an actual exhibit from their museum. Techniquest wooed visitors with something different, they were able to measure their reaction times by placing their hands onto the exhibit. Nothing like a bit of healthy competition! Therefore, they won Best Small Stand.

Check out what they’ve got going on here 👉 https://www.techniquest.org/

Best Marketing

We chose Dreams & Wishes charity as our winners of Best Marketing. It was hard to miss them all over social media! This charity is such a worthy cause, granting ill children their dreams and wishes. Their marketing is ‘on point’ and deserves recognition, keep it up Dreams & Wishes!

Have a look at their brilliant work here 👉 https://www.dreamsandwishescharity.org/

2nd Best Marketing

123 Divorce didn’t just win Best Medium Stand, they also won 2nd Best Marketing! As aforementioned, their pink campaign is hard to miss. They stand out from the crowd and that is what good marketing is all about. Congratulations 123 Divorce!

Check above for their website details!

3rd Best Marketing

In 3rd place for Best Marketing was PIXAFUSION Digital. They are a full-service digital marketing agency, and this really shows in their own marketing. Their advertising before and during the Expo was excellent and we loved it!

Entrepreneur of the Year

After much thought, we decided that Giovanni Malacrino was the worthy winner of Entrepreneur of the Year. He is the Welsh Italian that everyone wants to know and get involved with. His brain for business is impressive and this is evident in the work he has completed this year with Introbiz. We adore his restaurants Giovanni’s Park Place and Giovanni’s The Hayes, and our MDs Paul and Tracey Smolinski really enjoyed trying his Cookery School! His restaurants are very popular with celebrities and he often welcomes the likes of Cliff Richard, Katherine Jenkins, Shirley Bassey and Tom Jones. On top of this, Gio always wants to help people, he has no hidden agenda. He stands out with his charitable work. Keep it up Gio!

Special Recognition Award

Prodec earned this award well and truly. They closed the biggest deal in the network this year. This took place at the end of a journey, which began with Rebecca knocking on our office door, trying to sell her services to us. We returned the favour by telling her what we do, resulting in her signing up to the Introbiz network. Through the network we connected her with the right people, and hence, the 1.5 million-pound deal was done. Congrats Prodec!

Best Start-Up of the Year

Cobalt HR earned the title of the Best Start-Up! We think their efforts deserved recognition as they have really grown throughout the year. Kerry has been so active this year, regularly hosting successful events in the city. Keep up the good work, we love watching your journey!

Networker of the Year

Mike Armstrong from MA Consulting won Networker of the Year for good reason. Although every member of Introbiz deserves an award for networking, Mike raised the bar indeed! After listening to Grant Cardone’s speech at the Expo, Mike is truly 10X-ing his business and his life. What an inspiration!

The Winner of The Pitch

Our competition, ‘The Pitch’, which takes place at the Expo each year, always attracts some incredible talent. Our judges chose The Disabled Reviewers as 2018’s winners. Their pitch is that they review Disability Aids, Cars, Hotels, Airports, Airlines, Hotels Abroad and much more for disabled people. We are so pleased to have them on board as part of our network.

Start Business Networking, Here are 10 Networking Tips from Introbiz Wales Biggest Business Network

Networking is all about interacting with people to exchange information, build trust and long lasting relationships in order to develop professional or social contacts leading to additional business and opportunities.

Clearly, it is very important in the business world:

From gaining job opportunities to bringing in business for your company, networking is the key to success.

Please find 10 top tips for networking like a pro.

Dress smart and relevant for the event:

Turn up at events looking good.  You only get one chance to make a first impression so make yours a good one.

Always be prepared with business cards:

Have your business cards with you all the time. You do not know who you might meet and when, so it is therefore important for you to have your business cards with you all the time, but even more so at Business Events.

Engage with others by asking them about themselves and then their business or businesses:

Ask people about themselves as a way of breaking the ice and then find out more about their businesses.  People love talking about themselves so let them, and listen well to what they say and take an interest.  They will help you to know areas to talk to them about of mutual interest and opportunity etc.

Have a clear and concise description of what you do and why it’s of benefit to others:

Sell the sizzle not the sausage.  Tell people about what you do and what it can do to benefit them and make it short, clear and concise – like a 1 minute elevator pitch.

Don’t be afraid to tell people about your accomplishments:

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with bragging a little about your accomplishments or your company to get people interested. However, do not over do it as you don’t want to appear arrogant.

Network with everyone:

There is no need to discriminate when you network. Try to network with everyone and do not forget to be friendly. This will make everyone remember you for the right reasons.  If you see people on their own introduce yourself to them and ask them about themselves.
Don’t judge people and be quick to make assumptions:

Never assume that your speaking to someone that you can’t do business with because maybe theirs not an instant fit.  You don’t know who everyone else knows and you can often be surprised so get to know everyone, build relationships and see what becomes of those relationships over time.  You might find that people can be very different to how they first appear when given time to get to know them.

Attend lots of Networking Events:

You can’t network if you are stuck in the house or the office. Attend industry and community events so that you can meet lots of people.

Make plans to follow up and then always follow up:
When you hand over your business card, ensure that it results in something concrete as a next step. Tell the person to call you on a particular date or you can tell them to expect your call. And ensure you call.p when you say that you will.

Use social media to stay in touch following the first meeting:

If you go business networking (and even if not) you should really be on all of the major social media platforms, and you should use them often, especially LinkedIn.

Network with everyone in your industry that you can, and post frequently so that you stay on everyone’s minds.

Following an event you should connect with your new contacts via as many social platforms as you can in order to stay in touch and to stay connected.
